2015 Florida TSA State Conference

From giving speeches to making video games, there are many different events for everyone in TSA. Technology Student Association, or TSA for short, is a competitive function in which students in middle school and high school from all over gather to compete in different events. There are two different conferences for TSA, the State Conference, where students all over the state go to compete, and the National Conference, in which all students from all over America go to compete. Recently the Davenport School of the Arts TSA Chapter went to the Florida TSA State Conference. The 20 students that went competed in 19 events.

During State Conferences students compete in events that are on site, or go into interviews for top ten. The business meetings are where TSA members learn about the latest feeds and listen to officer candidates run for the state offices which are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sargent in Arms, and Reporter. Each office has a different role and each candidate has a different goal they would like to accomplish for their term which is one year. Only two voting delegates are allowed per chapter to vote for the candidates. During the last business meeting the TSA board of Directors give out some of the scholarships, but save some of them for the award ceremony. The voting delegates also vote for the running candidates at this meeting.

The most exciting part of the conference is the award ceremony. The events this year our TSA Chapter won was Challenging Tech Issues (3rd place), Junior Solar Sprint (3rd place), and Leadership Strategies (1st place). Congratulations to those students who won. The events in which our TSA students got top ten include Agriculture and Biotechnology, Construction Challenge, Career Prep, Communication Challenge, Video Game Design, Leadership Strategies, Junior Solar Sprint, Essays on Technology, Prepared Speech, Energy Sources, Environmental Focus, Inventions and Innovations, Medical Technology Issues, Promotional Design, and Technical Design.

Any fifth graders or middle scholars in sixth or seventh grade interested in joining next year’s TSA Chapter should  talk to Mrs. Frier.
