Photography students learn how to use digital SLR cameras to compose artistic shots, and they learn to use Adobe Photoshop CS5 to enhance their images and apply a variety of effects.

The photographs below are examples of images that were taken in color then converted to Black and White using Photoshop adjustment layers.

We would like to thank Cemex, USA for hosting a group of students early one Saturday morning at their Davenport facility. Students took photographs of sand piles that ranged from 3 to 8 feet tall, and composed them to look like they were mountains. We call our project, Mountains of Sand.

The full color photographs below were composed to show line, pattern and contrast. The students used Adobe Photoshop CS5’s Hardmix blending mode and selection tools to create these close up images of our new building.

Photography Mini Majors

Mini major's classes rotate to experience all four of the art subjects. Fourth and fifth graders rotate between graphic art, photography, 2D art and 3D art. In Mrs. Moyano’s's mini major class, fourth grade students completed a portrait unit centered around the book, Sarah Plain and Tall by P. MacLachlan. Students dressed in 1800’s costumes for their portraits and added a distressed finish and fancy frames in Photoshop CS5.

Meet the Photography Teacher
