Meet the Studio Art Teachers

Ms. Deven Deans was born in Virgina Beach and went to the University of Dayton in Ohio. She was inspired to do art when she was in high school. She worked at Montessori of Winter Garden charter school before coming to DSA.

Mrs. Joyce Behnke teaches Studio Art in the Visual Arts department. She was born in Iowa and raised in Illinois where she attended Augustana College - University of Illinois. She has taught in Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana before moving with her husband Robert to Florida. She has one son, John, who is 34 years old and owns a ballroom dance studio in Indiana.

One interesting fact about Mrs. Behnke is that she a descendant from four generations of craftsmen. Her great-grandmother made quilts, rugs, and stuffed animals. Her grandmother painted china and her mother is a quilter. Mrs. Behnke loves teaching Studio Art, because she can share all of those art forms with her students.

Studio Art Work in Progress

Students in Ms. Deans' classroom are now working on linoleum. For those who are not in any of Ms. Deans' class, this is just a fancy word for saying block prints.

Most students are still working on Oil Pastels,
Watercolors and Tempera.

Other students have started work on
Butterfly houses.
